3 Steps to Car Accident Compensation
When you’ve been involved in an auto collision or accident then there are certain steps you should take following the incident, regardless of whether you have decided to claim car accident compensation.
Step 1
At the scene of the accident, you and the other party should have exchanged details. The information needed on both sides are names, addresses, phone numbers, the insurer’s information including policy number and the car registration numbers. Even if the car doesn’t belong to the person driving, you still need their name in order to begin the process of claiming insurance.
Although you may not be thinking about road accident compensation right at that moment and still may be shaky from the accident, once you’ve had a chance to rest and think about it this could well be the route you wish to take. If the accident happened and was in no way your fault then it is your right to make a claim for even minor injuries and small medical costs. That means that right after the accident (if possible) you should make a few notes about what happened.
Step 2
Ideally you would take pictures of the scene (if you have a camera available) and as soon as possible write down the circumstances of the collision. Include all details such as the cars involved, the damage caused to your car, the damage caused to the other car etc. If you can, perhaps draw a diagram to outline the circumstances in which the crash happened too. Include traffic lights, road details and even placements of other cars if possible. This will be a big help when and if the time comes to make a car accident compensation claim.
If for some reason you are unable to stop at the scene of the accident, it should be reported to your insurance company within 24hours.
Step 3
Immediately after an accident many people report they are feeling fine. Ask them again 24 hours later and it is a different story. Even if you can’t feel the affects straight away, it is important you seek medical assistance after a car accident. Keep notes of appointments with the doctor, hold onto all receipts and invoices incurred and keep a diary to record symptoms and the status of your injuries.
Although this all may seem like a lot of work you will be thankful for it later on if you decide to file a claim for traffic accident compensation. Imagine if you feel fine for weeks after the accident, but suddenly you start suffering from neck problems as a result of the crash. If these neck problems steadily get worse and start affecting your quality of like and ability to work, the chances are high you will want to make a car accident compensation claim to cover costs and compensate you fairly. If you have made detailed notes and have the information readily available then the compensation process will be made much easier.
